Old School Dropout designed a new Warped Tour shirt that is currently traveling around the country with the show. We think it’s going to show the country that punks can still rattle the establishment. It’s by iconic photographer Edward Colver. Go visit www.edwardcolver.com and www.slamdancevelour.com for other fine stuff.

On June 30th, Kevin Wong launched a funding campaign on Kickstarter.com for a photographic essay book on the lives and faces of those who live on or near the segment of Route 66 that passes through the Mojave Desert (Ludlow, Amboy, Cadiz, Chambless, Essex, Goffs and Needles). He will also interview those that work on the road, the tourists that travel the road, and the passionate people that preserve and promote Route 66.  This project will cost $3,000 and it was selected by Kickstarter for its project vision and for the quality of reward gifts.  As a pledge patron donors will receive a reward gift for each level of pledge!  Make a pledge now and send him on the road to record the lives and faces of “Route 66 - the Mojave Experience”.   You can make a pledge of $1.00 or more by calling Kevin Wong at 760-910-1420, Mojave Desert Excursions.

Mount Fuji General Store Presents: Holiday Gift Fair and Zakka Bazaar at the Ace Hotel Palm Springs, Saturday and Sunday November 20th and 21st 2010, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This event will take place over two days in the Commune building. The Ace is world renowned for their award winning design and simple philosophy that pairs high style with true comfort, making it a perfect venue for this event. First coined in Japan, the home of all the best trends in art and design, Zakka means different things to different people but can be summed up as handmade and vintage things with soul. Zakka has also been described as “the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane”. The zakka boom could be recognized as merely another in a series of consumer fads, but it also touches issues of self-expression and spirituality. “Cute, corny and kitschy is not enough. To qualify as a zakka, a product must be attractive, sensitive, and laden with subtext.” If you are interested in becoming a vendor, please email mountfuji@me.com with photographs of your work. Vendors are being chosen by a committee of designers and you will be notified by email by September 15th if you have been selected to participate. The booth fee is $200 for both days and includes a table, a chair and an electrical outlet. The fee will be due by September 30th and can be paid by check or paypal. www.acehotel.com/palmsprings.

After six years on Saturday evenings, the “Z107.7 Local Music Showcase” is moving to a different day with a new host. Singer/Songwriter and cultural activist Ted Quinn will be hosting the show which has now moved to Sundays from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The radio show highlights the unique, distinctive and notably quirky sound of the musicians that populate the Morongo Basin. Each week Quinn will play nothing but local artists along with live interviews, live performances, and an insight into the local music scene that only an accomplished musician like himself can. Ted Quinn moved from Hollywood and a childhood acting career to Joshua Tree in the early 90’s, where he was instrumental in establishing the Rancho de la Luna recording studio with friend and collaborator Fred Drake. Over the past decade, Quinn has hosted thousands of performances locally in his weekly open mic’s, as seen in the PBS-aired documentary; “Nowhere Now: The Ballad of Joshua Tree.” The recently released “Mother & Child” is Quinn’s ninth album recorded since moving to the desert he has amassed a songbook containing over 100 of his original compositions, “Things Worth Keeping. Z107.7 personality Manny Flores will be acting as Quinn’s producer for the show. Former “Z107.7 Local Music Showcase” host Mindee Jaye has moved on to new full-time responsibilities aboard the Twentynine Palms Marine Base. Local artists who are interested in having their music played in the program or looking for an interview opportunity or live performances can contact Ted Quinn by Calling Z107.7 at 760-366-8471 or via e-mail at kcdzted@gmail.com. The “Z107.7 Local Music showcase”, Sundays from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. is designed for those artists who actually live and/or perform here in the Mororngo Basin. Musicians who are not licensed are required to give specific copyright permission to the radio statio.  Z107.7, in the Morongo Basin, is locally owned and operated and is one of the few commercial radio stations that encourage and give air time exposure to independent, local musicians.
